Die Konsequenzen die sich daraus ergeben sind weit reichend und vor allem als ethisch problematisch anzusehen. Durch das zunehmende Wissen über die molekulargenetischen Konstitutionen des Menschen wird auf anderen Wirtschaftsbereichen und für die Gesellschaft mit Konsequenzen zu rechnen sein.
Jedoch ist es nicht von der Hand zu weisen, dass ein solches Wissen im Umgang mit Gesundheit, Krankheit, Behinderung neue Handlungschancen eröffnen kann. Trotzdem gilt, dass ein solches Wissen Chance und Gefahr zugleich ist. Was den Medizinern im Bereich der Medikamente seit langem bewusst ist, dass jede Wirkung ihre Nebenwirkung hat, dies gilt ebenso für die viel weiterreichenden Eingriffe, welche mit der Gentechnologie möglich werden. Während jedes Medikament vor seiner Zulassung viele Kontrollen durchlaufen muss, damit Verträglichkeit und physische Nebenwirkungen geprüft werden können, ist die Gentechnologie erst in einem frühen Anfangsstadium begriffen. Denn die ungeplanten Nebenwirkungen die sich aus der Gentechnologie ergeben sind vielfältig und sind vor allem im gesellschaftlichen, sozialen, politischen und physischen Bereich anzutreffen.
In meinen weiteren Ausführungen möchte ich versuchen einmal bewusst solche möglichen Nebenwirkungen der modernen Medizintechnologie ins Blickfeld zu rücken, und zwar exemplarisch an dem Beispiel der Pränatal- und Gendiagnostik. Das Hauptanliegen wird sein, dass Wissen aus molekulargenetischen Untersuchungen nicht nur im positiven Sinn zu sehen, sondern auch kritisch die erworbenen Informationen aus Analysen zu betrachten.
